Papal legate for 51 IEC

Cardinal Charles Maung Bo (SDB) Archbishop of Yangon, Myanmar was Papal legate for the celebration of 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) in Cebu, Philippines from 24th to 31st January 2016. Papal legate was welcomed by young Sinulog dancers upon his arrival in Brgy. Pasil, one of the poorest communities in Cebu.

 “The Philippines has the inevitable title of being the disaster capital of the world. But time and again, you (Filipinos) have proven your resilience and your faith rises above all challenges,” Cardinal Bo said in a powerful homily before hundreds of thousands of Catholic devotees at the Plaza Independencia.

Despite the series of calamities that devastated the Philippines, the papal legate recognized how Filipinos “have shared the bread of your hospitality and the bread of your knowledge (to the world).”

Papal legate paid a courtesy call on President Benigno S. Aquino III at the Music Room of Malacañang Palace on Feb.1, 2016. “During the courtesy call, Cardinal Bo was accompanied by Rev. Fr. Dominic Bar Bu, secretary general of the Archdiocesan Office of Yangon; Rev. Msgr. Chibuke Onyeaghala, first counselor of the Apostolic Nunciature; and Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, president of the 51st IEC.
